Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies
and the Mystery Dog!
I remember back when I was a kid, Happy Meal toys were totally lame. Like a Fry Guy comb, or a Grimace spoon or some crap.
The first McDonald's toys that caught the attention of myself and my peers were this set of four kick ass Muppet Babies.
I don't know if it was a nationwide thing, or if it was just our local restaurant, but for some reason every one of my friends had about six Gonzos and Miss Piggies, three Kermits, and no Fozzies.
Fozzie was the Holy Grail. He was unattainable.
Then one of my friend's cousins came in from out of town. They had FOZZIE! Rapture!
I think we traded about a dozen Gonzos for him. It was our proudest day.
After the Muppet Babies fiasco, none of our mothers would take us to McDonald's anymore. I remember when the Fraggle Rock toys were out, I called the restaurant every week to see which toy was in the Happy Meal, because I only had a limited window, and I didn't want to miss the Boober/Wembley car.
Two Fraggles in for the one car! Sweet! Somehow I also ended up landing Red too. Double sweet!
And then there's this dog. I didn't write it down before the toys were packaged up, but I think its foot said "1982 (or 1983) Paramount Pictures."
Who is this dog?!
From my Internet research, the best hypothesis I can come up with is that it's Little Orphan Annie's Dog Sandy, circa the live action '80s movie.
Either that or it's 1982's White Dog, which the IMDB describes as "a vicious dog who's been trained to attack and kill people with black skin."
